When the NFL's single-season sack record was most recently broken, Brett Favre appeared to t ake a dive to help Michael Strahan reach 22.5.
Don't expect Josh Allen to lie down. He doesn't even like to slide in the open field.
"I do like highlight tapes, but I don't like being a part of other people's highlight tapes," Allen said with a smile Wednesday.
That mindset will be tested this week.
Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett enters Sunday's matchup one sack shy of tying the record Strahan set in 2001 and T.J. Watt matched in 2021. Garrett has 21.5 sacks with three games remaining, recording at least a half-sack in 11 of 14 games and piling up 16.5 over his last seven.
Allen knows exactly what's coming.
"He's an absolutely tremendous football player. He's one of the greatest of all time," Allen said. "He's a force to be reckoned with. We gotta be ready for everything he can throw at us. You have to be aware of where No. 95 is on the field at all times."
Allen is usually the one rewriting record books.
In 2025, the Bills quarterback has set the NFL career record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (77) and broke the league mark for career games with at least three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown (12). He's also the only player in NFL history to throw for three touchdowns and run for three more in the same game, and he's done it twice.
Allen understands the advantages of elite size, strength and quickness at a position. The 6-foot-5, 237-pound quarterback is an inch taller than Garrett, though 35 pounds lighter.
"He's the biggest guy out there. He's the fastest guy out there," Allen said of the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. "His ability to get off blocks, his motor is really higher than anybody else you'll ever play. He can beat you with speed and power. He's just the all-around football player."
Allen is 1–1 against the Browns in his career and has been sacked by Garrett once, in a Bills win in 2022.
Garrett currently ranks 21st on the NFL's all-time sacks list with 124. The six-time Pro Bowler is 16 sacks shy of becoming just the seventh player in league history to reach 140.
Bills legend Bruce Smith remains the standard at No. 1 with 200 career sacks. Sacks became an official NFL statistic in 1982.
