Wright State (5-8) shut out No. 19 Tennessee (12-4), 6-0, on Sunday in a series finale at Lindsey Nelson Stadium .
Tennessee's offense totaled six hits, including three from shortstop Manny Marin . He also hit the Vols' only extra-base hit, one double, against Wright State.
The Vols went 3-for-11 with two outs, 2-for-10 with runners on base and 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Leadoff batters were also 1-for-9.
Tennessee left four runners on base and hit 13 flyouts and seven groundouts against the Raiders.
First-year head coach Josh Elander discussed the Vols' offense after the series finale.
"Just frustrated with our offensive performance in a multitude of ways," Elander said. "Just immaturity across the board. I mean, guys taking huge swings when we're down three. I mean, in between on heaters and changeups, and a lot of pullside ground ball misses.
"I think we hit 12 or 13 fly ball outs, you know, 50-plus degree launch, and the math is very simple on that. You're out when you do that, so for us to not make the adjustment collectively, or to coach them better to where they can make those adjustments throughout the game, left a really bad taste in everybody's mouth after otherwise a pretty good week for our crew."
