Josh Jacobs has been a rock-solid RB1 in fantasy football for years now, from his start on the Las Vegas Raiders to his recent run with the Green Bay Packers . Now, he's one of the biggest question marks entering the 2026 NFL season.
The NFL placed Jacobs on the Commissioner's Exempt List last week after a Wisconsin court charged the former Alabama star with battery and criminal damage to property. Jacobs is prohibited from playing and practicing while on the list, though he'll keep receiving a paycheck.
Jacobs was arrested on May 26 after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend. According to police , Jacobs grabbed the woman during an argument and threw her to the ground, causing a head injury.
Here's what we know about the situation.
It's unclear at this point, but we'll likely get clarity sooner than initially thought. Jacobs' court hearing was moved up to Thursday, three days before the Vikings ' season opener, after originally being scheduled for No. 17. This will likely speed up the NFL's decision in regard to determining Jacobs' status. If Jacobs does get suspended, any time he missed while on the Commissioner's Exempt List will count toward his suspension.
MarShawn Lloyd, a 2024 third-round pick, is expected to be the lead back while Jacobs is out. He has only six carries since being drafted, however, so we'll probably see a running back by committee approach. Green Bay also traded for former Pittsburgh Steeler Kaleb Johnson, so it's likely we'll see him and Lloyd form a one-two punch in the backfield. For now, avoid Jacobs in drafts.
