Junior guard Zaide Lowery won't return to Marquette basketball team
Zaide Lowery is officially done with the Marquette men's basketball team .
The junior guard will not return to the team, the school announced in a release on Dec. 28.
It had been a tumultuous two months for the 6-foot-5 Lowery. He started the first nine games, but struggled to find consistency. He lost his starting spot to freshman Adrien Stevens against Wisconsin on Dec. 6, then played only 12 minutes in a loss at Purdue .
Lowery didn't come off the bench at all in the Big East opener against Georgetown on Dec. 17 , then didn't make the trip for a game at Creighton on Dec. 20 for what MU called personal reasons .
The sides have now decided to part ways.
Lowery wasn't highly recruited out of Kickapoo High School in Missouri . But MU coaches were intrigued by his athletic gifts on the AAU circuit with the Missouri Flight. Lowery committed to the Golden Eagles in April 2022 , and then spent his senior season at prep powerhouse La Lumiere.
Lowery appeared sparingly as a freshman in the 2023-24 season. As a sophomore he had a breakout game at Villanova on Feb. 21 , scoring 25 points while going 5-for-5 on 3-pointers.
That performance prompted some to think he had a big leap in production coming this season , but it never did.
Now Lowery will be looking for a new team.
