Junior Kroupi is unlikely to leave Bournemouth in January as Tottenham remain keen on his services, sources have told Football Insider.
Kroupi scored 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season as he fired Bournemouth to Europa League qualification for the first time ever.
The French youth international surpassed Robbie Keane and Robbie Fowler to break the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season by a teenager.
He emerged onto Spurs' radar in the summer window, but the 20-year-old's pre-season injury concerns put paid to any move away happening ahead of this term.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insiderpodcast, Tottenham are still interested in Kroupi but Bournemouth have no plans to let him leave in the next transfer window.
Bournemouth were demanding over £80million for his signature in the summer and could ask for a similar fee in the new year.
Tottenham will struggle to complete Junior Kroupi move in January
Kroupi suffered a fractured metatarsal in July and has only recently returned to action for the Cherries.
The French youth international made his first appearance of the season last weekend against Man United, and is in line to return to Marco Rose's starting eleven in the coming weeks.
Speaking on the Transfer Insiderpodcast, I explained: "I would say next summer is more likely for Kroupi if he is to leave Bournemouth. A lot of clubs were interested in him in the summer, but his injury ended any chance of a move away.
"Bournemouth were adamant they weren't losing any of their top players and they did that with Kroupi and other key players in that side, they kept hold of them.
"Obviously, they know if Kroupi comes back from injury and starts performing like he did last season, those interested clubs are going to come back for the young striker. I think there'll be more than just Tottenham who will be interested in Kroupi."
Tottenham should match Chelsea and strike 'behind-the-scenes' agreement - Ex-CEO Tottenham set sights on new Morgan Gibbs-White move - 'I'm told...' What has Kroupi said about his future?
The 20-year-old striker will be fully focused on maintaining his fitness and keeping the Cherries in the top half of the Premier League for now.
Questions around his future will continue to arise, however, and could intensify further if he impresses in the next two months.
Kroupi was asked about his current situation at the recent Ballon d'Or ceremony, and he offered insight into the transfer talk from the summer and his aims for the future.
He said: "I can't say. I don't know what would have happened [without the injury]. At Bournemouth, I'm going to give everything for the fans and to help the team perform.
"I'm going to give my all to play for the biggest clubs in the world, in the best leagues in the world. When I was little, playing in the Premier League was my dream. As I grew up, that dream became a goal."
