Offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea has cleared waivers and is now a free agent, according to the NFL transactions page for Tuesday, May 12. The Pittsburgh Steelers released Laumea, the team announced on Monday.

Laumea, 25, is a 6-foot-4, 319-pound offensive lineman in his third professional season, who signed with the team on Jan. 19.

A sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks out of Utah in 2024, Laumea started six games as a rookie. He was waived coming out of training camp in 2025 and added to the Seattle practice squad, but was quickly released. The New Orleans Saints picked him up and he spent a month of their practice squad before being cut on Oct. 17.

All 355 of his NFL regular-season snaps have come at right guard. He has also had preseason experience at left guard.

The Steelers held a pre-draft Zoom meeting with Laumea in 2024. He played both right guard and right tackle over his five seasons at Utah, starting at guard in 2020 and 2021 and tackle the last two seasons. A strong run blocker, Laumea also did not allow a sack in 388 pass-block snaps in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus.

Laumea checked in at the NFL Combine with 32 7/8-inch arms, which is shorter than the usual standard for an offensive tackle, paving the way for him to play guard at the next level, though the Steelers announced the signing as a tackle.

He did not run the 40-yard dash or do agility drills in the pre-draft process and thus did not qualify for an RAS score. Laumea put up 26 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Laumea has Samoan ancestry and was a finalist for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year in 2022. He is a Compton, California native.

In addition to releasing Laumea, the Steelers signed center Greg Crippen on Monday. Crippen was with the team during rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
