📸 Just unfair or clever? Furore over this World Cup moment
After Uruguay and Cape Verde drew 2–2 on Monday night, one moment in particular sparked a lot of discussion online.
Shortly before halftime, Cape Verde's Telmo Arcanjo was lying on the ground with cramp. His opponent Federico Vinas stretched his leg. So far, so nice. But when he saw that his team was launching an attack, Vinas let go of the leg pretty quickly.
Maxi Araujo then made it 1–1. You can watch the highlights of the full match again in the video here.

"My opponent needed me. But my team needed me even more," the striker explained after the match (quote via 'kicker'). Cape Verde coach Bubista, on the other hand, was visibly annoyed after the final whistle. "I was upset about that scene. Because Marcelo Bielsa ( Uruguay's coach, editor's note ) shows us what fair play means in every press conference and every match. We have all learned from him what fair play means," said the 56-year-old.
