The moment Kansas State football fans have been waiting for has arrived.
Collin Klein will make his debut as a head coach at 6 p.m. Saturday when the Kansas State football team hosts Nicholls at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Here's everything you need to know about the game ...
Kickoff:6 p.m. Saturday
Where:Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan
Radio:KFNZ (96.5 FM and 610 AM) in Kansas City, KFH (1240 AM and 97.5 FM) in Wichita
Betting line:K-State by 40.5 with an O/U of 54.5
The biggest challenge that K-State will encounter Saturday is heat.
Temperature at kickoff is projected to approach 100 degrees in Manhattan. Keeping players cool and hydrated in those conditions won't be easy.
Aside from that, I don't see the Wildcats having much trouble in their season-opener. Nicholls isn't a quality FCS team. The Colonels rank No. 169 nationally in Jeff Sagarin's all-encompassing ratings database for college football, even after they throttled Mississippi Valley State in their first game.
Nicholls simply isn't a strong enough opponent to challenge K-State, which checks in at No. 40, per Sagarin.
This is a warmup game for the Wildcats.
The question isn't: Will they win?
The question is: Will they cover the 40.5-point spread?
This is Klein's first game as a head coach, so it's hard to say how he will approach this type of game. But he has served as offensive coordinator in four games against FCS opponents at K-State and Texas A&M.
His teams won those games by the following scores: 52-10, 48-0, 45-0 and 34-0.
Expect something in that neighborhood on Saturday.
Here's guessing he pushes the Wildcats hard for three quarters and then coasts with backups the rest of the way.
Kansas State 49, Nicholls 3
