Undrafted free-agent linebacker Jack Pyburn made headlines on and off the field in the NFL preseason. He led the league with four sacks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the preseason. He was cut by Tampa and was a part of a lawsuit in Louisiana that resulted in a temporary restraining order allowing the plaintiffs to return to play in college this year.
Pyburn intended on returning to play at LSU in 2026 after Tampa let him go. Things changed Monday when the Kansas City Chiefs claimed him off of waivers.
The soon-to-be 23-year-old Pyburn is a 6-foot-4, 258-pound edge rusher that spent three years at Florida before spending his senior campaign at LSU in 2025. He combined for 52 tackles and two sacks as a senior.

His withdrawal from the 5-for-5 eligibility litigation will serve as a blow to LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin as they look to compete in the SEC in 2026. Instead, he will try to establish himself in a rotation of edge rushers alongside second-round pick R Mason Thomas in KC.
