With fans wondering how the Boston Red Sox 's season can get worse, the situation could lead to more turnover in the front office, as this MLB insider speaks to the job status of chief baseball officer Craig Breslow . As rumors will surround the Red Sox regarding the future moves the team will make, Ken Rosenthal would predict Breslow's status with the ball club.
Rosenthal would write a column for The Athletic focused on certain MLB teams' front offices, and when talking about Boston, he would double down on his prediction that Breslow would be the next person fired after manager Alex Cora was axed earlier.
"The first sentence of the column I wrote after the firing of Alex Cora was, ' Craig Breslow is next.' Nothing that has transpired since has changed my opinion," Rosenthal said.
"The Sox were 10-17 under Cora," Rosenthal continued. "They're 22-29 under interim manager Chad Tracy, sitting on the worst record in the AL. CEO Sam Kennedy recently said during his weekly radio appearance on WEEI that the removal of Breslow was 'not on the table.' But he also called the team's season 'embarrassing.'

Rosenthal would continue talking about the Red Sox and possibly canning Breslow, emphasizing that "it's obvious where this is heading, particularly with an ownership that is forever in search of someone to blame." With Breslow in his third season, Rosenthal would point out how the people in his position before, like Ben Cherington, Dave Dombrowski, and Chaim Bloom, were let go in their fourth year.
Rosenthal believes that Breslow will be fired; it's only a matter of "when."
"When assessing Breslow's body of work, it's doubtful ownership would determine he warrants one more shot," Rosenthal wrote. "The deadline is five and a half weeks away. Breslow is not yet ready to give up on the season. And even when he does, Sonny Gray , Aroldis Chapman and Co. will bring only so much."
At any rate, Boston is currently 33-46, which puts them last in the AL East, ahead of an outing against the New York Yankees on Friday night.
