- Kentucky guard Collin Chandler is transferring to BYU
On November 10, 2021 , 17-year-old Collin Chandler announced his commitment to play basketball at BYU.
Now, more than 1,600 days later and after both serving a full-time mission and spending two years at Kentucky , Chandler has again chosen the Cougars.
The former Wildcats guard is transferring to BYU, he announced Saturday via social media, becoming the Cougars’ first portal addition of the offseason.
As a sophomore this past season, Chandler averaged 9.7 points per game and shot 41% from 3-point range as Kentucky’s top deep shooter, making 46% of his shots from distance in SEC play as well.
He appeared in 66 contests during his time as a Wildcat, reaching the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 as a freshman and the round of 32 this year.
At the time of his high school commitment, Chandler was the highest-rated signee for the Cougars in the 247 Sports era, with the Farmington High product rating as a 4-star prospect and the No. 6 combo guard in his class.
However, once Mark Pope left BYU for Kentucky in April of 2024 , Chandler — then in the final weeks of his Latter-day Saint mission — requested to be released from his letter of intent and subsequently followed Pope to Lexington.
But Chandler will now make his long-awaited arrival in Provo, where he’ll play alongside 5-star freshman forward Bruce Branch III as a dynamic duo for Kevin Young to build around.
