New England Patriots WR Kevin Byard III is leading the charge to bring Eagles WR A.J. Brown . He is doubling down on that effort this week, per Mark Daniels of MassLive.
Even though he didn’t say anything to him, Byard is hoping Brown will join the Patriots.
“I hope he can come here and play for us,” he said.
Byard, a friend of Brown, recalled what it was like to go up against him in practice when they were teammates in Philadelphia and in Tennessee .
“He was unstoppable,” Byard said.
Brown and Byrard played for the Titans from 2019 to 2021. Then, they played for the Eagles in 2023. After one year with the Chicago Bears , in which he had 61 solo tackles and seven interceptions, Byard was traded to the Patriots in March.
Meanwhile, Brown is coming off a season in which he recorded 78 receptions for a total of 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. The Eagles went 11-6 and lost in the NFC Wild Card game to the San Fransico 49ers 23-19.
In 2024, Brown signed a 3-year $96 million contract extension . However, speculation is that Brown would be traded to help the Eagles alleviate $7 million in cap space . Additionally, it would allow them to split a $40 million cap hit over 2026 and 2027.
Furthermore, Brown is poised for a new start after a series of complaints about the Eagles’ offense during the 2025-26 season.
The hope is for Brown to be the Patriots’ much-needed explosive receiver under QB Drake Mayo.
Brown will not become an unrestricted free agent until 2030.
