The Carolina Hurricanes certainly sent their crowd home happy on Kids Day as they defeated the Winnipeg Jets with a whopping 7-0 score. So…let's not hesitate and just get into the nitty gritty, why don't we.
Sunday afternoon's game got off to a pretty quick start, with an outstanding defensive sequence from Jaccob Slavin and Jalen Chatfield on the penalty kill leading to a shorthanded goal from Sean Walker just five minutes and some change into the game.
Amazing how great defensive work can immediately translate into a score

A few minutes later, Walker got his second goal of the game , making it 3-0.
Soon after, Logan Stankoven got a goal , as well – leading to the Jets making a change in net, with Clay Stevenson coming in relief of Stuart Skinner. …All of this happened in less than 10 minutes into the second frame.
As the third period commenced, Mark Jankowski scored on the power play .

As the game ended, Pyotr Kochetkov earned his 13th NHL career shutout with 26 saves, and in doing so, extended his winning streak to 10 – surpassing Cam Ward and Brandon Bussi's nine-game streaks for the franchise record. Ironically, mid-game, the NHL announced that Kochetkov had been named the Third Star of the Month of October, behind Kirill Kaprizov and Connor McDavid.
After the Hurricanes gave Kochetkov his hugs and atta boys after the game, they proceeded to the zamboni tunnel as the players' children went onto the ice with their dads for the Storm Surge to celebrate the big win on Kids Day.
With a 7-0 shutout and his 10th win this season (consecutively, no less), the Hurricanes lined up to give some hugs to their goalie Pyotr Kochetkov
Since it's Kids Day, it was a special Storm Surge as the players were joined by their children on the ice–adorable!… pic.twitter.com/GP6V0a60fG— Queen of the Puck (@rbarkleyhockey) November 1, 2026
When the three stars of the game were announced, reporter Hanna Yates was joined by Kids Reporter Emma Claire – who had been selected for Kids Day – to ask the first star Walker some questions about the game and emotion of bringing his daughter onto the ice. You can watch it here .
"Winning hockey is amazing and everything, but getting to share these moments with my daughter is pretty special–really grateful that the team does this"

Game Notes
Slavin skated in his 800th career NHL game Sunday – he and his teammates spoke on the topic in an interview shown on Hurricanes Hockey Network during the pregame show, and Yates reported on what head coach Rod Brind'Amour had said about his superstar defenseman during the game.
In terms of big streaks, Nikolaj Ehlers is on a six-game point streak – having accumulated nine in those games. Also… Andrei Svechnikov is on a two-game roughing penalty streak (I'm sorry, it is a fun stat that I had to note).
The Hurricanes were two-for-five on the power play, and…I guess you could jokingly say they were four-for-three on the penalty kill, having kept a perfect sheet on the disadvantage, and even notched a goal shorthanded.
With seven goals scored, 12 players for the Hurricanes notched a point, with six players having multi-point games.
Not only did Kochetkov make franchise history with his 10th consecutive win, but he now has the second longest win streak to open the season in NHL history, tying Carey Price's 2016-17 record, and behind only Jack Campbell's 2020-21 record of 11 games.
Throughout the game, the Hurricanes had a child handle the PA for Wade Minter for Kids Day – and the kid deserves a shoutout in these here game notes for how well he did. Just listen !
I can't get over the Hurricanes' PA for Kids Day
This kid is incredible–sounds just like a mini Wade Minter 😆 #CarolinaCulture #GoJetsGo #NHL https://t.co/L1KiFZtFCz pic.twitter.com/QqqEyCEvV5— Queen of the Puck (@rbarkleyhockey) November 1, 2026
