New York Giants
general manager Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh believe they've built a tough football team that can compete on any given Sunday. Yet, after last week's injury to Jaxson Dart
, the Giants will have to work even harder to earn their wins from here on out.
Yet the way the Giants
handled Dart's season-ending knee injury has drawn criticism. That includes criticism from a quarterback whom some feel the Giants should be trying to recruit as a potential replacement for their injured QB1.

Derek Carr
Didn't Like Giants' Approach After Jaxson Dart's Injury
Even though he no longer plays in the NFL after a shoulder injury that forced him to retire at 34, Carr still follows the sport closely. Close enough that he and his older brother and former Giants QB David Carr have a podcast called "Home Grown with David & Derek Carr."
Recently, the two former NFL QBs discussed Dart's knee injury, and that's when Derek admitted he wasn't a big fan of how the Giants handled the news about their franchise quarterback's injury.
Dart wanted to return to the game, but the Giants' medical staff wouldn't allow it. Now, Carr suggests maybe they should have listened to their young leader.

"If it's such a serious thing, if they think it's such a serious thing," Derek explained.
"Usually a 4-to-6-week thing is like, maybe we can let you go (back into the game). That's what's kind of weird to me. You hold him out. Maybe you knew it was a longer deal than you let on."
While they didn't know it at the time of the injury, Dart has since been diagnosed with an injury to his meniscus and MCL. Both will require surgery, and the 23-year-old is expected to face a recovery process that could last anywhere from four to six months.

That means Dart won't be able to play again during the 2026 NFL regular season; however, coach Harbaugh has held out hope that his starting quarterback could potentially return if the Giants qualify for the postseason. However, that would mean Jameis Winston
has performed admirably, and it could be tough to pull him from the lineup once the elimination games begin.
Then again, Dart's 90.6 PFN QB Impact Score
places him second among all NFL quarterbacks this season. In other words, his loss is a big one for a Giants team that's started the season 1-1.
Either way, Dart is set for surgery, but as noted, at least one former QB is a bit surprised that the Giants didn't let the young gunslinger head back out there to finish the game.
