The Sacramento Kings are hoping to turn their franchise around this summer, recently learning that they will have the number seven pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. It was a disappointing result after a 2025-26 season that featured a ton of losing and not much development of young talent.

One of the biggest names in the upcoming draft class is that of former Arkansas freshman point guard Darius Acuff Jr ., and recently, Jeremy Woo of ESPN broke down why he might end up being a good fit in Sacramento.
"The Kings at No. 7 are viewed by rival teams as Acuff's floor: Sacramento needs a point guard, and there are existing connections, including the fact that GM Scott Perry coached Acuff's father at Eastern Kentucky," reported Woo.
Of course, floor would insinuate that other teams before the Kings might have interest in taking the talented guard, who put up some Herculean stat lines down the stretch of the regular season and into the NCAA Tournament for the Razorbacks.
There are some concerns about Acuff's height and defensive limitations as the NBA increasingly moves away from building around small guards (see the lack of trade markets for both Trae Young and Ja Morant this past season). Still, Acuff has some incredibly enticing tools in his shed, including elite athleticism, a silky jumper, and theoretically, the physical build and quickness to at least become a passable defender at the NBA level.

For a Kings franchise in dire need of some youth and excitement for the fans to rally behind, Sacramento might be the best possible landing spot for the talented young guard as he looks to establish himself at the next level.
The draft is slated for June 23.
