Landry Shamet rose as a sudden new fan favorite of the New York Knicks following their NBA Finals run. Shamet entered his reflective state era following the title win, including being honest about De'Aaron Fox . But he also dropped a stirring "anomaly" take regarding Game 3 versus the San Antonio Spurs .
Shamet sat down with the Old Man and Three podcast to reflect back on that Madison Square Garden showdown. The reserve understood from the get go how special the moment was: The iconic MSG was hosting a finals showdown for the first time since 1999.
"Everything that was stacking [mentally] showed that this was a big night," Shamet said. "Game 3 was such an anomaly."
Shamet pulled back the curtain on why he defines the game as an "anomaly."
"We're going through TSA screening, we're staying in a hotel so our home routine is off," he recalled.
Shamet didn't hesitate to reveal his real state of mind before the opening tip.
"I remember my level of anxiety that day, I felt the anxiety on the whole city," Shamet said.
New York fans likely won't remember that game first, as San Antonio claimed the win. But Knicks fans likely prefer to replay Game 4 in their heads, which ended with OG Anunoby's put back to seal the 29-point comeback . Anunoby's now iconic basket sparked new rap lyrics from New York music legend Grandmaster Flash .
Shamet joins Anunoby and the rest of the Knicks as the new toast of New York. But he is entering NBA Free Agency this summer.
