Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
During the Lakers' 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
In 2018, the Dallas Mavericks took Shake Milton , a 6-foot-5 guard, out of Southern Methodist University with the No. 54 pick in the NBA draft. He was promptly traded to the Philadelphia 76ers , and by his second or third season in the league, he started to establish himself as something of a spark plug off the bench.
During the 2020-21 campaign, he averaged 13 points in 23.2 minutes a game and got some minimal voting in the balloting for the Sixth Man of the Year award. Early last season, the Brooklyn Nets sent him to the Lakers, along with 3-and-D forward Dorian Finney-Smith , for guard D'Angelo Russell, wing Maxwell Lewis and three future second-round draft picks.
He appeared in 30 regular-season games with the Lakers and averaged 3.9 points in 11.5 minutes a game. This season, Milton is with Partizan Mozzart Bet, a pro basketball team in Serbia.
