FOXBOROUGH — Ahead of a Sunday Night Football date with the Patriots , the Ravens were missing an important piece at Wednesday’s practice.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson was sidelined with an illness, according to Baltimore coach John Harbaugh . Tyler Huntley and Cooper Rush are the two quarterbacks behind Jackson on the depth chart, so they were left to run the Ravens offense.
“(Jackson) was kept home with a flu deal,” Harbaugh said. “The doc kept him home today away from the guys.”
The Patriots were missing some key players at Wednesday’s practice too, though none as important as a starting quarterback. Linebackers Robert Spillane and Christian Elliss weren’t participating in Foxborough, along with defensive end Harold Landry and cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Marcus Jones .
Spillane was spotted in a walking boot in the locker room prior to the session.
After playing Josh Allen last week, Mike Vrabel was asked about the similarities between Buffalo’s quarterback and Jackson. He redirected the question, just emphasizing the “huge challenge” Jackson presents instead.
“Josh isn’t going to matter on Sunday, this is about Lamar and the Ravens, what he can do, his ability to stay patient and calm, and then deliver the football or burst,” Vrabel said. “I mean, he really scrambles when he has to. He rarely feels like anybody’s going to be able to tackle him until he’s ready to go down, to get out of bounds or to throw. That’s kind of the mindset and what I see on tape. So, that’ll be a huge challenge. One that we’ll have to be ready for in multiple ways, but he’s comfortable standing there in the pocket, and then more than capable to extend plays when he feels like he has to.”
