The New York Knicks handed Landry Shamet an offer to return. Shamet now will lock himself back with the champs on a $24 million deal . Yet the NBA Finals winners helped get Shamet to turn down larger offers.
Knicks reporter Ian Begley of SNY TV revealed some intel Monday that Shamet faced other big suitors .
" Landry Shamet turned down the opportunity for bigger offers from other contenders to re-sign with the Knicks and defend the title, per sources," Begley posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter. "Those offers were coming if Shamet hit free agency."
But Shamet agreed to a four-year deal that keeps him on board, with ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reporting the move first.
"Bringing back Shamet was a priority for the club," Begley added.
Shamet earned mention in the "second apron" category before signing his deal . That's still a thought involving one other key Knicks free agent.
"If Knicks stay under second apron, it will be very difficult for them to now retain Mitchell Robinson ," Begley said.
Another words, Shamet's lucrative deal makes it harder for the Knicks to retain their other impact reserve. Robinson likely will intrigue multiple teams following his impact on the 2025-26 champions.
The "other contenders" for Shamet weren't unveiled. But signs pointed to teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers , Detroit Pistons or even the San Antonio Spurs as possible suitors for Shamet before his signing. Shamet's sharpshooting off the bench made him a coveted priority during NBA Free Agency. But the fan favorite sparks new thoughts of a Knicks championship repeat.
