The 2026-27 college football season is still months away, but Lane Kiffin ’s debut game with the LSU Tigers is something that has fans on the edge of their seats. With the program scheduled to take on Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers in Week 1, Kiffin’s first game as LSU’s head coach gets the College GameDay treatment.
Reports indicate that LSU’s season opener (and home opener) against Clemson in Week 1 will be the first location for ESPN’s College GameDay, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.
“ESPN College GameDay’s 2026 slate will open with a bang. The show is heading to the Week 1 matchup between Clemson and LSU, On3’s Pete Nakos reports,” claimed On3 Sports. “The game will mark Lane Kiffin’s first as LSU’s head coach inside Tiger Stadium.”
While the initial rankings for the 2026-27 season have yet to be released, both LSU and Clemson are expected to be at least ranked within the top 25 to begin the campaign. This will be Kiffin’s first year coaching the Tigers after leaving the Ole Miss Rebels high and dry in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff.
His exit from Ole Miss came with much controversy, as the 51-year-old head coach was the center of drama throughout most of the season, as he was involved in rumors linking him to the LSU job after the program fired Brian Kelly. Lane Kiffin reignited the drama with the Rebels after making some controversial comments about the program in May.
After his College GameDay debut against Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers in Week 1, Kiffin will have all eyes on him in Week 3, when LSU takes on Ole Miss. That could be another College GameDay matchup for Kiffin to begin his tenure with the Tigers, but we won’t know until the season is underway.
