Center Ben Kindel was a real bright spot for the Penguins as a rookie, scoring 17 goals before even turning 19, but his arrival on the ice this season was delayed by a lower-body injury.
After the Penguins took their season opener in grand style , they followed it up Thursday with some good news on Kindel's status.
The 19-year-old took a major step toward a return with the season now underway, coach Dan Muse said.
Here's what you need to know about Kindel's practice status and his timeline for a return.
Ben Kindel Practice Update
Muse confirmed Thursday that Kindel returned to practice as a full participant, a day after he participated in a white non-contact jersey.
"It was a big positive that he was out there as a full participant," Muse told reporters. "He's been out for a while. We still have to see how things respond. It was a good sign today, and I'm going to have more conversations.
Muse, however, maintained that Kindel's status as week-to-week is unchanged until he talks to the team's medical staff.
"We're not going to change anything until we get some feedback," Muse said.
Kindel practiced with the fourth line, taking the place of an injured Blake Lizotte, Michelle Crechiolo reported .
When Will Ben Kindel Return?
With Kindel still listed as week-to-week, his return might not be imminent. The Penguins are undoubtedly not looking to rush him back so early in the season, and he just returned to full practice participation on Thursday.
Muse left the door open for Kindel's week-to-week status to change, though, telling reporters that the coaches needed to talk to the medical staff before revising. If Muse gets a positive report from the medical team, it's possible the Penguins could soon have more clarity on Kindel's timeline.
