Although the Chicago Bears traded for Jeffery Simmons , the team still has other needs.
There have been rumors tying Khalil Mack to a trade that would send him back to Chicago.
The latest news on Mack was that the Los Angeles Chargers weren't open to trading him, despite their 0-7 start.
Mack played for the Bears from 2018-2021. He made the Pro Bowl and was an All-Pro in three of the four years he spent with the franchise.
If he hadn't missed time in the 2021 season due to injury, he most likely would have achieved those accolades again.
Just because the Chargers aren't open to trading him doesn't mean that a reunion can't happen in the future. Even if the Bears can't get him before the trade deadline, his contract with Los Angeles expires next year.
Aside from the Mack rumors, there was another former player who NFL Network's Ian Rapoport thought could return to Chicago.
On a recent edition of " ESPN's Big Day ", Rapoport mentioned former Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright as a trade target for the team.
"Among their needs, they have a need on the edge, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them add some secondary help as well," Rapoport said. "Khalil Mack is obviously a name that we've discussed. The problem with that is Joe Hortiz, the General Manager of the Chargers, has shown no indication that he wants to sell at all. They like how Khalil Mack has helped the young edges and helped the locker room. It's bad there. They do not wanna give up on the season. The other interesting one is Nahshon Wright. Was with the Bears last season. Is with the Jets. Now is really not playing. Could that be a name to watch just for some depth? I do not believe Ryan Poles is done."
Wright was a great story to follow last year with the Bears. After not really finding a place to call home in the NFL, the city of Chicago embraced him. Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon were out for most of the season, and Wright stepped up in a huge way.
If it had not been for Kevin Byard leading the league with seven interceptions, Wright's five may have done so. The work that defensive backs coach Al Harris did with Wright was incredible.
Unfortunately, Wright was on a one-year deal last year and needed to re-sign in order to come back. With how well he played in 2025, his market value skyrocketed. The Bears weren't willing to pay that much money for Wright, and he joined the New York Jets in free agency.
With the Jets, it's been a different story. Wright hasn't had any injuries to speak of this year, yet he has only played in three games. Playing time has been much harder to come by at the Jets than it was with the Bears.
He has one total tackle from the three games he's played in this season. The Bears could be motivated to bring Wright back, especially since he's on a one-year deal with the Jets.
Johnson has been subpar this season, and the team could benefit from more depth in the secondary.
In just one season, Wright became a fan favorite in the Windy City. We'll see if Ryan Poles is interested in bringing Wright back after a short stint in New Jersey.
