As it's been a nightmare start for the New York Mets , especially since the team is on a nine-game losing streak ahead of Saturday's game and start of the series against the Chicago Cubs , fans have been wondering about the injury return of Juan Soto . While the hope is that the Mets can be uncursed when Soto returns , the latest update could signal a timeline.
According to MLB.com, Soto has "began a running progression" on Tuesday and continues to do drills, with the expectation being that the next homestand for the team is when he can return.
"Soto (right calf strain) began a running progression on April 14 and did outfield drills on April 17. He is expected back sometime within the Mets' upcoming April 21-30 homestand," MLB.com wrote.
The timetable for Soto has been consistent as of late, with Tim Britton of The Athletic reporting that the team has relayed the star to return for the aforementioned home stand , which starts on April 21 against the Minnesota Twins .
"President of baseball operations David Stearns said Friday the club is optimistic it will not be a long-term absence for Soto," Britton wrote. "The initial timetable provided by the team indicated Soto could be back for the start of the next homestand on April 21."
The Mets want to do a 'supplemental MRI' on Juan Soto before his return
Soto has been dealing with a right calf strain, which has forced him to miss 13 games now, with Saturday's game against the Cubs, which is unfortunate since the 27-year-old was seemingly getting into a groove. In the eight games he has played this season, Soto has recorded a .355 batting average to go along with one home run and five RBIs.
Before returning, New York reportedly wants "to do a supplemental MRI" before officially activating him, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday.
At any rate, it remains to be seen if Soto makes the April 21 game against the Twins at home.
