In a recent post on X , journalist Sacha Tavolieri mentioned that Toulouse full-back Dayann Methalie has failed a part of his medical at Sunderland . It is understood that the French talent is now back in France for further medical tests as his move to join the Black Cats have stalled due to a light back injury.
Methalie enjoyed a good run of form at the Ligue 1 club in the previous campaign after he produced a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 20-year-old registered two goals and picked up two assists in 30 appearances for Toulouse last season in various competitions.
The French talent is currently one of the most talented full-backs in Ligue 1 . Therefore, the Black Cats would do well to lure him to the Stadium of Light in this transfer window.
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Sunderland to sign him on the cheap this off-season.

Methalie is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is a good passer as well.
Standing at 1.88m, the French sensation can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Methalie is primarily a left-back but can also play as a centre-back if asked to do so by his manager. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to land him in this transfer period.
We can expect Methalie to add more firepower to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris' defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Wearside club in the coming seasons.
At 20, Methalie has the potential to be a future star in English football. Hence, his failed medical would be a big blow for Le Bris this late in the transfer window. The Black Cats cannot afford to lose out on Methalie after losing Arthur Masuaku earlier this summer.
