Saturday's game should be quite an even matchup. Texas Southern is coming off a successful 2025 season where it won its last two games of the season, including a 24-7 win over SWAC rival Alabama A&M. Overall, the team finished the season above .500 with a 6-5 overall record and a 5-3 conference record, while going 3-3 at home.
North Carolina Central finished with an 8-4 record and a 3-2 mark in conference play. Quite impressively, it also finished 5-1 on the road. The Eagles won three of their last four games on the road, including a 33-14 win over Morgan State.
Texas Southern and North Carolina Central will play for the first time in school history, and it will no doubt get them ready for the rest of the season. After this Saturday, Texas Southern will play in the Labor Day Classic against Prairie View A&M. North Carolina Central will host Elizabeth City State at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham in its Hall of Fame Game.
