Liverpool have set their sights on move for 18-year-old midfielder
Liverpool Step Up Gilberto Mora Transfer Pursuit as January Move Comes Into Focus
Liverpool have intensified their efforts to sign Gilberto Mora, with the race for one of Mexico's most exciting young talents now gathering real momentum ahead of the January transfer window. According to TeamTalk, the Anfield club are no longer merely tracking the situation from afar, they are firmly in the conversation for a player widely regarded as a major prospect.

The key development is simple and significant. Mora has now turned 18, a milestone that removes the FIFA restriction that had blocked an international transfer while he was still a minor. As a result, a move can now be lined up and completed in January, with Liverpool understood to have followed initial enquiries with fresh contact to both the player's representatives and Club Tijuana.
Those close to the process have made the current position clear. Liverpool's interest is described as "serious rather than exploratory", a distinction that matters when so many elite clubs are circling. The attacking midfielder remains under contract with Tijuana until 2029, which gives the Mexican side a strong hand in negotiations and explains why any agreement is expected to come at a premium.

Gilberto Mora Price Set as Liverpool Face Major Competition
Tijuana are said to want a fee in the region of £30 million, a sum that would represent a Liga MX record. Mora's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has declined to comment on precise figures, but the market interest underlines why the valuation is so high. Liverpool's long-term admiration has only grown after Mora impressed on the international stage and became Mexico's youngest senior goalscorer.
There is, however, no clear run at this stage. Arsenal are also viewed as "serious contenders" and see Mora as a long-term creative midfield option. Borussia Dortmund and Benfica have previously held talks with his camp, while Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to monitor developments. Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also among the wider group of admirers.
January Transfer Window Could Be Decisive
The emerging sense is that this deal may come down to two factors, valuation and pathway. Tijuana are expected to "hold out for a premium fee", while Mora's side are said to value "a competitive environment and a clear development pathway". That combination tends to shape elite talent moves more than headline interest alone.

For Liverpool, their latest moves appear designed to strengthen an already credible position. Whether that becomes a formal bid remains to be seen, but the timing is noteworthy. With January now a realistic point for action, and with multiple clubs making contact, the contest is entering a more active phase.
What seems beyond doubt is that Liverpool are treating Mora as a genuine opportunity. The report states their "latest advances have strengthened their position", though the final outcome will rest on which club can satisfy Tijuana's demands and persuade the player that it offers the ideal next step.
Our View
From a Liverpool supporter's perspective, this is exactly the type of move that sparks intrigue. Gilberto Mora sounds like a high-upside signing, a young attacking midfielder with serious pedigree, strong market demand and plenty of top-level clubs already paying attention. When interest is described as "serious rather than exploratory", it tells you this is not background noise.

The obvious question for fans is whether Liverpool are prepared to go all the way on a deal worth around £30 million for an 18-year-old arriving from Liga MX. That is a substantial outlay, and supporters will naturally weigh the fee against the immediate needs elsewhere in the squad. But elite young talent rarely comes cheaply, especially when Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona and others are in the frame.
What makes this one especially interesting is the mention of "a competitive environment and a clear development pathway". Liverpool under Andoni Iraola should be able to make a compelling case on that front. If the club believe Mora can genuinely become a first-team player rather than a long-term project parked on the fringes, that could be a major advantage.
There is always risk in this sort of transfer, particularly with adaptation to a new country, a new league and much greater scrutiny. Still, if Liverpool's recruitment team see him as one of the standout young creators on the market, then this feels like the kind of bold move supporters usually want the club to make before his value climbs even higher.
