Calvin Ramsay has revealed he was eager to head back to Scotland following his departure from Liverpool on loan in a move that effectively draws the curtain on his time at the club. The 23-year-old has penned a deal with St Mirren for the 2026/27 season, pending international clearance.
With the Scotland international's contract at Anfield expiring next summer, Ramsay will walk away on a free transfer, having already been informed that a contract extension will not be forthcoming from Liverpool.
Faced with an uncertain long-term future, Ramsay has acknowledged his desire to return to more familiar territory as he looks to breathe new life into his career away from Merseyside, as per the Liverpool Echo .

"I feel really good, really excited," he told the club. "I've been in and trained and met all the boys, so yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
"I know the league and I wanted to come back up here and try and show what I can do and rebuild myself again. I feel like it's a good place to come. I want to try and perform, work as hard as I can and see where that takes me.
"It's a really tough place to come for opposition teams and I think the pitch is really good as well from when I played here. It's a good set up, it's a good club and I'm just excited to get going.
"I spoke to the manager a couple of times before I came up and he got his plan across and what he wanted to do.
"It's probably a different St Mirren compared to the last few years. That'll suit me. I'm comfortable on the ball, I'm composed, I like to get on it and try and create things and make things happen."

Ramsay joined Liverpool in an initial £4.2 million (around $5.1 million) transfer from Aberdeen in June 2022, but his time at Anfield was consistently hampered by injuries and unsuccessful loan spells.
The full-back managed just four appearances across his four years with the club, while he accumulated a combined total of only 26 outings during temporary stints at Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Kilmarnock throughout the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.
He remained on Merseyside for the 2025/26 campaign and was included in the matchday squad on 20 occasions under Arne Slot. Despite this, he featured only twice, with his selection largely attributed to the Reds' defensive injury problems.
Ramsay will now be seeking to revive his career back in Scotland, and will be free to hold discussions with other clubs regarding his next move from January.
