When a team like the LSU Tigers takes a lot of big swings and changes around most of their roster, some players are sure to get lost in the fold.

ESPN's college football staff just went through their top-25 rankings, where the Tigers currently sit at No. 11, and highlighted one "under-the-radar" player for each team. For LSU, it was incoming Boise State Broncos transfer safety Ty Benefield .

Benefield is a 6-foot-3, 208-pound safety who is following in the footsteps of Mansoor Delane and AJ Haulcy. He is already well-respected around the country and probably would have been drafted somewhat early if he stayed, but coming to Baton Rouge will give him a chance to take his stock to the next level .

He's an interesting pick for an "under-the-radar" player, given that everyone knows he's a good player and the expectations are high for him in particular. Still, it has sort of been overlooked just how good of an addition someone like Benefield is, when they added several players ranked way ahead of him in transfer portal rankings.

Top players in flashy positions will always get more headlines. Quarterback Sam Leavitt , left tackle Jordan Seaton and edge defender Princewill Umanmielen have gotten most of the hype this offseason. Benefield is just as valuable at safety as any of them are at their positions, though.

Through his three years with the Broncos (really two and a half of real snaps), Benefield has picked up 235 tackles with three sacks, 18.0 TFLs, five interceptions, 12 passes broken up and two forced fumbles.

The defensive back lines up all over the secondary and can make an impact from wherever. He'll be another versatile piece who will move around the field, similar to his Tiger teammates. Blake Baker is going to have a field day drawing up different ways to use these players. On a down-to-down basis, though, Benefield will mostly be filling the void left behind by Haulcy.
