The LSU Tigers are busy with their first offseason under Lane Kiffin and his new host of football players are getting their first chance to train with the Tigers' top end facilities.
One player has found a fit with what LSU is working on this offseason, as ex-Kansas State Wildcats standout wide receiver Jayce Brown posted to his Instagram story to celebrate a recent workout accomplishment.
Brown posted the message, "We go Michael Jordan (ok hand symbol emoji, crying laughing emoji)" over a picture that showcased his top speed was 23 MPH, Michael Jordan's number. This is an incredibly fast top speed, as the second-highest was 22.1 MPH.
It's a little bit different in-game, but the fastest ball-carrier in the NFL last season was Jahmyr Gibbs at 22.23 on a 78-yard touchdown rush, per Next Gen Stats . Getting someone who can touch 23 is going to be deadly for opposing defenses.
Even that second-fastest player who clocked in at 22.1 should be very happy with that result, but he just happened to get out-shadowed by Brown's more absurd speed.
For what this Kiffin/Charlie Weis Jr. offense is going to look like, that speed is going to be deadly and only makes it more certain that Brown is going to be a top weapon.
The 21-year-old comes in as a four-star transfer after a great stint with the Wildcats, but it always felt like he could do more with an offense that is a bit more high-powered.
Over three seasons, Brown has posted 115 catches for 1,972 yards with 13 touchdowns. His best year was 2024 with 47 catches for 823 yards and five scores. He has a career 17.1 yards per reception, which follows exactly what LSU was prioritizing with their roster building. Most of their weapons put up big yards per catch.
That will be a welcome change for Tigers fans this offseason, as the offense last season notably lacked explosion because of the injury that Garrett Nussmeier suffered. They brought in speedsters like Barion Brown last time as well, but they weren't utilized.
A lot of the excitement around the change that LSU made this offseason, bringing in Kiffin and Weis, is their play-calling expertise. The Ole Miss Rebels did not suffer for offensive production during their time there, and now they should have even better athletes like Brown at their disposal. It should be a big year for points in Baton Rouge.
