- Luke Floriea of Mentor has tryout with Seahawks
In a perfect world, Luke Floriea would be on the Browns' 53-player roster.
A nice consolation would be trading that orange helmet for the silver one of the reigning Super Bowl champions.
As it is, it remains to be seen how Floriea's NFL journey might play out. On Sept. 3, ESPN NFL writer Jeremy Fowler tweeted the Mentor graduate secured a tryout with the world champion Seahawks .

There have been no reports on how the tryout went, or if Floriea's professional football career will migrate to the Pacific Northwest.
Floriea created headlines and became a fan favorite during preseason camp in Berea and in the Browns' three preseason games but he didn't survive the final cuts to the 53-man roster. In another eyebrow-raising move, Floriea also wasn't added to the team's practice squad.
Last season, Floriea — a Kent State product — was having an effective preseason camp under the watch of former coach Kevin Stefanski but suffered a hamstring injury. Eventually, he landed a spot on Cleveland's practice squad.
It was a different story for Floriea during this preseason, despite leading the team in receiving yards (95) and touchdown receptions (three), including two in the final preseason game. He almost had three in the game against the Patriots, but a review negated that play.
Coach Todd Monken spoke highly of Floriea following the decision by the Browns to waive the wide receiver.
"I was happy that he was a part of our team for the short time that we had him," Monken said of Floriea. "All he did was work every single day, and then to have the opportunity to have a couple of touchdown catches in the stadium that he was fired up about. … He gave everything he had in the time he was here with us."
The highlight of Floriea's time with the Browns might have been his first NFL touchdown Aug. 22 against the Bills at Huntington Bank Field on a reception from quarterback Shedeur Sanders .
"It was like a dream come true," Floriea told The News-Herald before practice Aug. 25. "I grew up thinking it was possible, but you never really know if it's going to happen."
Seattle 's practice squad currently lists three wide receivers on it — Ricky White II, Emmanuel Henderson Jr. and Julian Hicks, who is a Mayfield graduate.
Hicks, 26, played for Central Michigan and Akron before finishing his college career at FCS Albany. During his final college season in 2023, he played in 15 games for Albany and had 50 receptions for a team-high 820 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Seattle's decision to bring in Floriea for a tryout could be receiver Cody White reportedly leaving the Seahawks for a spot on the Raiders' practice squad.
Recently, the Browns filled their 16-player practice squad with the signings of cornerback Michael Coats Jr. and wide receiver Bryce Oliver of Kent State.
Coats was originally told he made the roster but was waived a few days later. The undrafted Coats was then added to the practice squad.
