The Dallas Cowboys selected Penn State offensive tackle Drew Shelton with their initial fourth-round pick on Saturday. It is going to be very interesting to see if he can work into the rotation up front for the offense.

Shelton was notably the first pick on the offensive side of the ball for the Cowboys which tracks given how poor the defense was last season. He was also the first draft pick of the team in a specific capacity.

Obviously the Cowboys made three draft selections beforehand by way of Caleb Downs , Malachi Lawrence, and Jaishawn Barham . Interestingly though, all three of those selections were made with picks that were acquired by some sort of trade. This means that Shelton was the first draft pick made in 2026 that was made with a selection that originally belonged to the team.

How each team arrives with the Cowboys is always interesting as there are a number of different paths to the Cowboys. But file this away as a Jeopardy question in case you are ever asked.
