USC wide receiver Makai Lemon is entering the 2026 NFL Draft as one of the most polarizing prospects in the class.

While his production with the Trojans was undeniably impressive, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that league scouts and executives have grown increasingly concerned about his pre-draft interviews.
Multiple sources described these meetings as "rough," specifically noting his difficulty in recalling the nuances of USC's offensive schemes.
This has led some personnel executives to question whether they might be "missing something" regarding his mental transition to the pros, especially since his spring testing numbers did not stand out compared to his peers.
These concerns were heightened by a viral moment from the NFL Combine that compelled Lemon to defend his maturity.

In response, Lemon spoke with reporter Nick Farabaugh on X, characterizing his podium experience as a significant "learning opportunity."
He admitted that he "definitely didn't expect it to look like that," but emphasized that the incident taught him how to conduct himself with greater professional poise.
By framing the viral slip-up as a chance for growth, Lemon is trying to reassure teams that he can handle the rigorous scrutiny of an NFL locker room moving forward.
The contrast between his recent interview difficulties and his collegiate success remains a key topic of discussion.

Earlier this year, in March, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic made favorable comparisons between Lemon and Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown .
Feldman noted that while neither player has elite track speed, both are incredibly skilled and built like running backs.
Before the recent red flags from his interviews emerged, fans were focused on Lemon's outstanding 2025 Biletnikoff Award-winning season, during which he accumulated 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Although these comparisons date back over a month, they serve as a reminder that despite his recent "learning experiences," Lemon's on-field intelligence is what typically translates best to success on Sunday afternoons.
