Man United star ruled out until 2027 in massive blow
Benjamin Sesko Injury Blow Deepens Manchester United Crisis Ahead of Chelsea Clash
Manchester United have another problem, and this one matters. Benjamin Sesko will be out until January with a shin injury, according to Standard Sport, a setback that lands right in the middle of a season already drifting in the wrong direction.

The issue goes back to last season, when the striker suffered the problem after a collision with Ibrahima Konate sent him into the hoardings at Old Trafford. The damage was serious enough to rule him out for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign, then for pre-season, and then for the opening stretch of the new season. He did return in late August and started against Sabah and Brighton, but the shin problem flared up again almost immediately.

Sesko injury leaves United short
United had already said Sesko would undergo tests, and the latest update is grim. "Standard Sport understands those tests have not produced positive results for Sesko, who is not expected to play again for club nor country until the new year." That is the key line here. It tells you this is not a minor setback and it also tells you United are now planning for months without one of their few natural central attacking options.

There is hope that "an extended break will allow him to fully recover from the injury and move forward pain-free." There is also the detail that "Surgery is an option for this type of injury, but United do not want the striker to go under the knife." That sounds cautious, but it also suggests the club are trying to avoid a more drastic route unless absolutely necessary.
Manchester United form getting worse
The football side of this is straightforward. United need goals and structure, and Sesko offers both. He scored 12 times in all competitions last season and has "managed two in six appearances, only two of which were starts, this campaign." Those are not explosive numbers, but they matter in a side playing badly and short on confidence.
In his absence, Matheus Cunha has led the line most often, while Bruno Fernandes has even been used as a false nine. That is usually a sign of improvisation rather than design. United now head to Chelsea trying to end "an eight-match winless run", with Michael Carrick under heavy scrutiny. Lose again and the noise only gets louder.

Our View
This is what happens when a badly built squad hits turbulence. One injury, even to an important striker, should not leave the whole attack looking this thin and this confused. Yet here we are again, trying to convince ourselves that makeshift solutions are part of some bigger plan. They are not. Playing Bruno Fernandes as a false nine is the sort of thing you do in an emergency, not as a recurring answer to a structural problem.
The most worrying part is how familiar all of this feels. A player comes back, breaks down again, more tests follow, and everyone talks about caution and timelines while the team stumbles through another miserable run. If the hope is simply to get to January and start again, that says plenty about where the club are right now.
Sesko missing until January is a real blow, but it should not define the entire season. The fact it might tells you the squad remains unbalanced and underpowered. Eight matches without a win is not bad luck, it is evidence. The attack lacks clarity, the team lacks momentum, and the manager is left taking heat for problems that run deeper than team selection.

Going to Chelsea in this state hardly inspires confidence. The fear is not merely defeat, it is another flat performance that confirms United are still stuck in the same cycle, short of ideas, short of resilience, and forever waiting for injured players to rescue them.
