- Manchester United make stance clear on Mateus Fernandes amidst transfer ties
Manchester United have made it clear to West Ham United that they will not be held to ransom over Mateus Fernandes .
United have identified Fernandes as the club's top transfer priority this summer, after withdrawing from the pursuit of England midfielder Elliot Anderson.
The Portuguese international has made it known he is eager for a move to Old Trafford, following West Ham's relegation to the Championship, as per The Mirror .

The 21-year-old is keen to secure UEFA Champions League soccer, while United are confident that agreeing personal terms will not present any difficulties.
However, the primary obstacle appears to be the transfer fee West Ham are demanding for Fernandes. The Hammers have placed a valuation of around £80 million ($107.4 million) on the midfielder, and are looking to spark a bidding war, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also circling.
West Ham believe Fernandes is the finest young talent in the Premier League, with the potential to command a fee exceeding £100 million ($134.3 million) in the near future.
United, however, are unwilling to meet that asking price. Senior officials at the club have deliberated over the benefits of bringing Fernandes into Michael Carrick's squad.

The prevailing view at Old Trafford is that, despite Fernandes' considerable potential, he has yet to fully prove himself at the elite level.
United are anticipated to submit an opening offer later this week — though it will fall well short of £80 million. Whether both clubs can find common ground on the fee remains to be seen.
However, with Fernandes having set his sights on a dream move to Old Trafford, United are refusing to be rushed and are willing to play the waiting game in hopes of securing an agreement on their own terms.
Meanwhile, United have moved to dismiss reports suggesting a £60 million ($80.6 million) deal has been struck with Newcastle United for Lewis Hall . While United continue to hold the England international in high regard, acquiring a left back is not at the top of their transfer agenda.
