The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to improve their staff for next season, and they did so by hiring a rival, Daniel Alfredsson . After spending the last three seasons as an assistant for the Ottawa Senators , the Maple Leafs have hired him as an assistant for their team.
The only thing some people can think about is the rivalry between Alfredsson and Mats Sundin, as they were captains for the Maple Leafs and Senators back in the day. Now, they'll be working alongside each other, as Sundin is the Senior Executive Advisor of Hockey Operations.
Alfredsson spoke about teaming up with Sundin, and it looks like they've stayed in touch with each other over the years.

"We've kept in touch. We don't live near each other in Sweden, but whenever we can, we try to hook up," Alfredsson said via David Alter of The Hockey News. "No, we haven't talked a lot about the past, to be honest. But obviously, I think it's great that Mats is involved again. I think he has so much to bring: leadership, experience. His enthusiasm was really obvious in the talks I've had with him. And you can tell he's really excited about this opportunity and try to do something really good."
The two weren't always rivals, as they won Olympic gold as Swedish teammates. There's no doubt that they're very familiar with each other, and that could go a long way in what the Maple Leafs are trying to build and accomplish , which is winning a Stanley Cup.
