- Maple Leafs’ Kirill Marchenko’s injury update emerges after early exit vs. Flames
The Toronto Maple Leafs have received an injury update on Kirill Marchenko after the forward exited Monday's 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames. Marchenko is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury, creating another concern for Toronto's lineup.
NHL analyst Mark Masters shared the latest update from the team on X. Marchenko's status comes alongside several other injury developments affecting the Maple Leafs.

"Kirill Marchenko is being listed as week-to-week," Masters reported. He also confirmed that defenseman Chris Tanev had been upgraded to day-to-day.

Marchenko suffered the injury during the second period against Calgary after an awkward collision with Flames forward Yegor Sharangovich. His left leg appeared to buckle during the fall, and he struggled to continue skating.
The forward briefly returned for another shift before leaving for the locker room. Toronto has not publicly confirmed a specific diagnosis beyond the lower-body injury.

Marchenko's absence could hurt the Maple Leafs after his productive start to the season. He recorded 14 points, including six goals and eight assists, across his first 14 games with Toronto.
The winger has already become an important offensive contributor following his arrival from Columbus. His scoring touch and puck movement have helped strengthen the team's attack.
Analyst Howard Berger shared an unconfirmed report suggesting Marchenko may have suffered an MCL sprain. Berger indicated that such an injury could require "roughly three weeks of recovery." However, it is important to note that the team has not verified that diagnosis or timeline.
The official week-to-week designation remains the clearest indication of his current status. Toronto will need to monitor his progress before setting expectations for his return.

There was more encouraging news regarding Tanev, who has been upgraded to day-to-day. Meanwhile, Dakota Joshua has been recalled from his AHL conditioning loan.
John Tavares, Nick Blankenburg and Marshall Rifai remain listed as week-to-week, leaving Toronto managing several absences simultaneously.

Marchenko's injury arrives at an inconvenient time for a team seeking greater consistency. His production will be difficult to replace, particularly if his recovery extends beyond the initial expectation.
Right now, Toronto must adjust its forward combinations and hope its remaining offensive leaders can maintain the scoring pace while Marchenko recovers.
