The Maple Leafs have won the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery. They held the fifth-highest odds of winning the first overall pick. Regardless of their odds, they will kick off the draft when the event rolls around late in June, following the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The San Jose Sharks won the draw for the second overall pick.

Here is the complete order of the first 16 picks in the 2026 NHL Draft:

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs

  2. San Jose Sharks

  3. St. Louis Blues (via Detroit Red Wings )

The Maple Leafs are one of the most storied teams in NHL history . But they aren’t a complete stranger to picking first overall. This will be their third time picking in the top spot of the NHL Draft. In 1985, they drafted Wendel Clark at the top. And in 2016, they selected Auston Matthews with the first selection.

Toronto will be the team everyone looks to when the draft begins in late June. What direction they go certainly remains to be seen. Regardless of their choice, the intrigue is certainly through the roof after the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery.
