It took defenseman Bryan Marchment 50 games to score his first goal as a San Jose Shark.
It took his son under 15 minutes.
Mason Marchment scored the first goal of the San Jose Sharks' new season Thursday night. Playing on a line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, Mason fired off a shot from the point at 16:20 of the first period.

Mason was just three years old during Bryan's first year in teal. He grew up in San Jose, turning seven before Bryan was traded away. Then, Bryan returned to work for the San Jose Sharks as part of the scouting and player development programs. Mason said lots of his memories of San Jose and living in Willow Creek were largely from 2005 to 2010.
"Watching so many games, growing up there as a kid," Mason said. "So many memories, and to get one wearing the jersey, it meant a lot. It was really cool."
The San Jose Sharks signed Marchment to a five-year, $33.75 million contract in the off-season.
Scoring that goal and skating out of the Shark Head are new memories he said he'll hold on to for a long time.
The home San Jose Sharks crowd was electric throughout the night and especially when Mason scored, revealing the new goal song, "Holiday" by Green Day.
"Since I was a kid, that was the loudest I've heard it," Mason said. "Growing up, people always said, the Shark Tank was one of the hardest rinks to come in and play in. The fans are so loud, you feel like they're right on top of you, and you definitely felt that last night, so it was really nice to see."
Now the second father-son duo to play for the San Jose Sharks, following Ulf and Jonathan Dahlen, the Marchments stand in rarified air.
