DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings center Marco Kasper is out for Sunday's home game against the Winnipeg Jets (1 p.m., Detroit Sports Net), necessitating some line shuffling and a position switch as the team seeks to generate more offense.
Coach Todd McLellan said Kasper has an upper-body injury and will be re-evaluated in a couple of days. It's not from his fight with Sean Durzi during the second period of Friday's 2-0 loss to the New York Rangers in the season-opener. Kasper finished the game.
The injury prompted McLellan to move Emmitt Finnie from left wing to center on a line with Viktor Arvidsson and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard for Saturday's practice.
"(Finnie's) pace and his ability now with some experience to defend is good," McLellan said. "We'd like to see more offense through the center ice position. Maybe he can provide some of that. We're going to overwork (J.T.) Compher and (Nate Danielson) if we don't get an extra center in there. And right now we think he's the best bet."
Kasper's injury enables Carter Mazur to make his season debut Sunday. He skated on a line with Danielson and Mason Appleton in practice.
McLellan said they're still hoping to have Dylan Larkin back for Tuesday's home game vs. Ottawa. Larkin took some reps on the Danielson line and on the first power-play unit in practice.
"Things are going in the right direction," McLellan said. "He's more active in practice now than he has been in the past, so that's a good sign."
