JJ Peterka is no longer skating on the Boston Bruins ' top power-play unit, but head coach Marco Sturm said the young forward understands what he needs to do to earn his way back.
Peterka opened the season on the first unit, but his recent struggles have contributed to the change. Sturm downplayed any concerns about how Peterka is handling the change, though he acknowledged the forward knows he needs to produce more to reclaim his spot.
"He's fine. He's totally fine," Sturm said, per Scott McLaughlin. "He knows, especially the last couple games, he needs to be better too. He's a kid. Puts a lot of pressure on himself, too."
Sturm also pointed to the challenges of adjusting to a bigger market, noting that Peterka is still young and learning. The coach acknowledged that changes during training camp and the early season do not always fall entirely on the player, but emphasized that Peterka needs to find his game.
"When he does that, he's pretty dangerous," Sturm said.
Peterka's ability to regain that form could help him work his way back onto the top power-play unit. For now, Sturm appears confident the forward understands what's expected of him as he adjusts to his new situation in Boston.
