Cal Raleigh and Josh Naylor, two players who were supposed to be the anchors of the Seattle Mariners ' offense, were greatly disappointing in 2026.
Their struggles are one of the many reasons the Mariners missed the postseason.
Now, Raleigh and Naylor look ahead to having major bounce-back seasons in 2027.
First, the Mariners teammates have undergone surgery to fix injuries they were dealing with at some point during the season.
"Seattle Mariners announce that two of their biggest stars, who struggled this season, underwent recent surgeries," USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported.
"Catcher Cal Raleigh underwent a left shoulder acromioclavicular (AC) debridement procedure. 1B Josh Naylor underwent triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) repair surgery on his right wrist. Both are expected to be fully recovered by spring training," he added.
Surgery is never ideal, but it bodes well for the Mariners that Raleigh and Naylor should both be ready for spring training.

Raleigh finished second in AL MVP voting in 2025, hitting an astounding 60 home runs. But he hit .182/.296/.368 with 23 homers and a .664 OPS in 2026.
Naylor, who signed a five-year, $92.5 million contract with the Mariners last offseason, had -0.2 bWAR with 10 homers and a .667 OPS in 152 games.
Hopefully, Raleigh and Naylor's respective surgeries help them return to All-Star form for Seattle.
