Matt Brash 's hopes of returning to the Seattle Mariners this season have officially come to an end.
The Mariners have shut down the right-handed reliever from throwing for eight weeks after an MRI revealed lingering inflammation in his right lat, general manager Justin Hollander announced.

Seattle Times reporter Ryan Divish first reported the update, which closes the door on Brash potentially returning during the final weeks of the regular season.
Brash had been sidelined since June while working his way back from the injury. The Mariners had hoped he could contribute to the bullpen during September, but the latest setback leaves Seattle without one of its most effective relievers.
The 28-year-old was dominant when available in 2026, posting a 3-0 record with a 0.54 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 16 2/3 innings in 20 appearances.

However, his season became another frustrating stop-and-start stretch as he dealt with multiple issues involving his right lat and struggled to complete his comeback.
The loss puts additional pressure on Seattle's remaining late-inning options, particularly closer Andrés Muñoz, as the club continues its series against the Athletics .

The timing is especially disappointing for a Mariners team still facing a difficult climb in the AL West. Seattle entered Saturday at 66-76, seven games behind the first-place Houston Astros .

With time running out, the Mariners will have to finish their season without Brash and hope their remaining bullpen arms can handle the increased workload.
For Brash, the focus now shifts toward recovery and getting healthy enough to enter spring training in 2027 without the injury concerns that limited his 2026 campaign.
