MIAMI, Fla. – After being swept by the Atlanta Braves on Thursday (3-4 on a seven-game road trip), the Miami Marlins (58-58) look to get back in the win column as the clubhouse returns to LoanDepot Park to start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels .
The team is three games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the last National League Wild Card spot. A sweep over the Angels would shrink the gap and the Marlins (34-23) have found greater success at home than on the road (24-35).
Probable Pitchers
For the Marlins, righty Tyler Phillips is listed as the probable pitcher. He's produced a 3.58 ERA and a 3-5 record in 89.1 innings (28 games and 12 starts). Phillips relies on six pitches :

- Sweeper (23.9 percent)
- Split finger (23.6 percent)
- Curveball (16.9 percent)
- Four-seamer (nine percent)
- Slider (1.1 percent)
The Angels list righty George Klassen as Friday's probable pitcher. He made his major league debut on April 5 against the Seattle Mariners as a starter. Klassen made his second start on April 11 against the Cincinnati Reds . Friday will make the rookie's third start of the season.
Klassen will be recalled by the Angels from the Salt Lake Bees (Triple-A). In the majors, he's shown five pitches :
- Four-seamer (38.6 percent)
- Changeup (24.8 percent)
- Slider (14.5 percent)
- Sinker (11 percent)
- Curveball (11 percent)
Klassen has produced a 11.57 ERA and a 0-1 record in 4.2 innings. He's allowed seven hits, six earned runs, walked 10 batters, and struck out six while on a major league mound. In the minors this season, Klassen has produced a 3.96 ERA and a 6-6 record in 91 innings (19 games, all starts).
Game Notes
The Angels are 6-14 in their last 20 games. Ahead of Friday's game, they have a 44-71 record, dead last in the American League. Despite having one of baseball's most prolific stars in Mike Trout , the talent isn't enough to elevate the team's production. The Angels have the eighth-worst batting average (.237) in the league this season.
Meanwhile, the Marlins' offense has been inconsistent. Against the Mets , the team batted .229 with a .689 OPS, including 30 hits in 131 at-bats, and six home runs. The production was the opposite against the Braves: .198 batting average and a .534 OPS, including 19 hits in 196 at-bats, no homers.
Both the Angels (.983) and Marlins (.981) have a below-league-average fielding percentage.
The series could come down to which offense produces more runs.
How to Watch
