Marlins vs Padres MLB Betting Preview
The Miami Marlins (76-77) enter Petco Park looking to gain ground on their road stretch (31-44 on the road). Miami's staff has hit a rough patch late in the season, posting a 5.63 ERA and allowing 17 home runs over their last 10 games.
Tyler Phillips (3.55 ERA) takes the mound for his 19th start of the season (35th appearance). In his last start against the Dodgers , he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up two earned runs .

On the other side, the San Diego Padres (83-69) return to their home field, where they have been dominant with a 46-29 record. San Diego continues to lean on disciplined plate appearances, dynamic contact, and home-field advantage as they push toward postseason positioning.
Nick Pivetta (3.60 ERA), recently back from a stint on the injured list, takes the hill for San Diego looking to build off efficient short-work outings.
The PRO Projections system highlights an edge on Tyler Phillips staying under 3.5 total strikeouts on Friday night.
Phillips carries a modest 7.26 K/9 rate (18.9% strikeout rate) and 51 walks over 119.0 innings pitched. He relies on contact-oriented pitching rather than missing bats in the zone.

Phillips' stamina in starts has been capped recently. He has pitched 5.0 or fewer innings in five straight starts, failing to complete 4 innings in his most recent outing against Los Angeles . Without deep rotation volume, reaching 4 or more strikeouts becomes a steep hill to climb.
San Diego features one of the most disciplined offense profiles in MLB when playing at Petco Park, consistently forcing high pitch counts without making empty swing-and-miss contacts.
Over his past four starts, Phillips has posted strikeout totals of 3, 3, 4, and 7. He has landed on 3 or fewer strikeouts in 3 of his last 5 appearances, fitting right under this 3.5 total.
Pick: Tyler Phillips Under 3.5 Strikeouts (-110, DraftKings)
