Mason Williams commits to Ohio State after entering transfer portal

Former Mogadore High School football star Mason Williams is heading to Ohio State. He committed to the Buckeyes a few days after entering the transfer portal following a strong season at Ohio University.

The 6-foot-5, 258-pound tight end earned third-team All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2025 when he caught 26 passes for 276 yards with three touchdowns. He totaled 48 catches for 565 yards and scored six TDs in 32 career games for Ohio. Williams graded out as a solid pass-catcher and blocker for the Bobcats, with his pass blocking considered to be among his top traits.

The Buckeyes got a good look at Williams when they hosted the Bobcats this past season. This isn't the first time a tight end has made the journey from Ohio University to Ohio State. Will Kacmarek played three seasons for the Bobcats before spending the last two with the Buckeyes.

According to Eleven Warriors, Williams joins a tight end room that includes redshirt senior Bennett Christian, redshirt sophomore Max LeBlanc, sophomore Nate Roberts, redshirt freshman Brody Lennon and freshman Nick Lautar, as well as Max Klare if Klare doesn't declare for the NFL Draft.

Williams was a three-sport athlete at Mogadore, excelling in football, basketball and baseball. Williams was a force at tight end (50 receptions, 696 yards), but also running back (246 carries, 1,985 yards), punter and defensive lineman as he helped the Wildcats to four consecutive league titles and numerous deep postseason runs.

This is a developing story. Return later for more details.
