Matt Ryan, Michael Vick ranked among top 99 QBs in NFL history

The Atlanta Falcons have struggled at the quarterback position over the last few seasons, which is one major reason for the their current eight-year playoff drought. The team is hoping Michael Penix Jr . can develop into a franchise quarterback, and the 2026 season will be an important measuring stick for the former top-10 pick.

After all, the Falcons know a thing or two about franchise quarterbacks. The team has drafted two elite signal-callers over the last 25 years. Atlanta selected Michael Vick first overall back in 2001, and for portion of his career, he more than lived up to the hype.

Vick's off-the-field issues eventually spilled over into his NFL career, though. In 2007, he was arrested for his involvement in a dog fighting ring. After serving two years in prison, Vick was signed by the Eagles and made his fourth Pro Bowl in 2010.

The Falcons were forced to pivot in 2008, using the third overall pick to draft Matt Ryan out of Boston College. Ryan's first NFL pass was a touchdown, setting the tone for an impressive 14-year run in Atlanta. Ryan led the team to a Super Bowl appearance and won the league MVP in 2016.

So, where do these two former Falcons quarterbacks rank among the greatest players to ever play the position? Bleacher Report published a new feature ranking the top 99 quarterbacks in NFL history. Both Vick and Ryan made the cut, with Vick coming in at No. 52.
