Although Kyrie Irving has been out of action since March 3, 2025, he's still the source of trade rumors. The Dallas Mavericks are making major shake-ups to the organization, hiring Masai Ujiri as president and firing Jason Kidd as head coach. Now, many in the NBA world wonder if Irving has played his last game as a Maverick.
In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show , ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania discussed multiple contenders looking to acquire Irving should he be available for trade.
"The only Mark Cuban guy left on that team right now is Kyrie Irving . Kyrie Irving is a generational player, generational talent. Masai Ujiri did his press conference today, and he said, 'We want to see Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg on the court together.' But there's no question, there's multiple contenders around the NBA that are very much monitoring what Kyrie Irving's future is right now with the Mavericks. Uh, whether it's the summer, whether it's into the season. But that's all gonna play out over the course of the year."
Irving has been with the Mavericks for the past two and a half seasons and was a huge catalyst for their run to the 2024 NBA Finals. Irving averaged 25.6 points per game, 5.2 assists per game, 5 rebounds per game, and 1.3 steals per game, on 90.5% free-throw shooting and 41% three-point shooting.
He and Luka Doncic formed a tandem that placed them amongst the best teams in the West. But after Doncic was traded to the Lakers , Irving found himself as the number one option on the team in the 2024-2025 season. Before his unfortunate injury, now that Irving looks to get back into action next season, he could find himself featured on a brand new team.
But Irving staying with the Mavericks and forming a tandem with Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg could certainly be an interesting option for Dallas as they look to spark a new competitive streak in a stratified Western Conference.
