The New York Mets received another encouraging injury update Tuesday as their bullpen inches closer to getting reinforcements. Right-hander Austin Warren began a minor league rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie, giving the club another positive development alongside fellow reliever Clay Holmes as both work toward returning from injury.
Warren has spent the last three weeks on the injured list with a right forearm strain. His return to game action marks an important step toward rejoining the Mets' bullpen, which has absorbed a heavy workload throughout the season.
Anthony DiComo of MLB .com reported that Warren was scheduled to pitch for St. Lucie on Tuesday night, while Holmes also continues progressing through his own rehab assignment. The organization will monitor both relievers closely before determining the next steps in their recoveries.
After receiving a positive update on Holmes earlier in the day, the Mets now have another arm nearing a return, offering at least some optimism as they evaluate their pitching depth.
Despite the encouraging injury news, New York enters the week with a 45-62 record, sitting last in the National League East and well outside the National League Wild Card race. With the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaching, the club could still look for pitching help while also evaluating how much Warren and Holmes can contribute down the stretch.

Warren had pitched effectively before landing on the injured list, posting a 2.45 ERA with 36 strikeouts over 33 innings. If his rehab assignment goes smoothly, he could soon provide another option for manager Andy Green.
The Mets will continue monitoring both relievers over the coming days as the front office weighs its roster plans before the trade deadline and prepares for the final two months of the regular season.
