The New York Mets lost another game to the Miami Marlins, 2-0, as their offensive struggles continue.
The Mets gave Robert Stock an unexpected start with all the moves going on, and he did surprisingly well. Stock gave the Mets five excellent innings, although Miami did get on the board in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. The run scored on a solo home run by Joe Mack, who's had some good moments against the Mets in this series.

The Mets did almost nothing offensively against Marlins starter Sandy Alcantra, as they got just four hits in six innings. They did get his pitch count up to 102, so they were able to get him out of the game.
The Mets loaded the bases off reliever Michael Peterson in the seventh with nobody out, but strikeouts from Jorge Polanco and Francisco Alvarez followed by a weak groundout from A.J. Ewing ended the rally before it started and kept Miami on top.
The Marlins doubled their lead with an insurance run in the ninth off closer Devin Williams with some small ball. Otto Lopez started the rally with an infield hit, and he promptly stole second. Xavier Edwards then singled him home to make it 2-0.
Miami closer Paul Fairbanks survived a shaky ninth inning as he walked two hitters, but he was able to steer around the traffic as he posted his 17th save of the season as Alcantara got his 12th win.

The Mets managed just five hits in this one as they couldn't come up with the big hit when they needed it, and they wound up losing three of four to the Marlins to go with a brand new three-game losing streak.
All eyes now turn to the trade deadline, as the Mets traded starter Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays for three of the Rays' top 30 prospects. Peralta was expected to anchor the Mets rotation this year, but now he'll be in a pennant race in the AL East.
This almost certainly won't be the last trade with the Mets having a day off tomorrow before they head to embark on a road trip that starts with three games against the Cleveland Guardians.
The list of trade candidates includes reliever Brooks Raley, outfielder Luis Robert Jr. and starter Clay Holmes along with multiple other possibilities. Expect the trade action to be fast and furious in the next 24 hours or so, with the Mets being one of the primary sellers with plenty of players to offer.
