New York Mets star Francisco Lindor was placed on the injured list on Thursday after suffering a calf strain during the team’s 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night. According to manager Carlos Mendoza, Lindor will be out “for a while” with the calf injury, Joe Pantorno of amny.com reports.

Juan Soto returned from his calf injury on Wednesday. The Mets were excited to have the star back in the lineup. Now, however, they will be without Lindor for at least a while as mentioned.

The 32-year-old shortstop was hitting .226/.314/.355 to go along with two home runs before suffering the calf injury. It remains to be seen exactly how much time he will miss with the injury. Nevertheless, Lindor’s injury absence is far from ideal for a Mets ball club that has struggled this season.

New York snapped a 12-game losing streak with the win on Wednesday. The team is still just 8-16 overall and tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for last place in the National League East division. The Mets are certainly hoping to build momentum off of their win on Wednesday, but the Lindor injury news may take some of that momentum away.

New York will play Minnesota once again at home on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST in what should be a competitive matchup.

As for Lindor, the Mets obviously hope he can return as soon as possible. The team will continue to monitor and provide updates on his injury status as they are made available.
